Description of key information

Two studies on analogue substances are available. Both showing EC50 values above the water solubility level. In a read-across approach this level is set as EC50 for the substance.

Daphnids were exposed to DDNSA in a semi-static study according to OECD 202 (limit test at 1.0 mg/L, measured 0.053 mg/L). The immobilisation reported in both controls (2/20) and in the test substance group (1/20) is considered not significant and within the validation criteria for the test. The EC50 was assessed as > 0.053 mg/L (Laus 2014).

For Daphnia magna exposed to di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acid (DNNSA) the 48h-EC50 was beyond the range tested, i.e. exceeded the average exposure concentration of 0.27 mg/l (Wil 2013). Due to the very low solubility of di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acid (DNNSA) in test medium, concentrations that might be toxic to Daphnia magna could not be reached. The effects observed at the higher measured concentrations of the test substance were mechanical rather than toxic.
