Description of key information

non explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

non explosive

Additional information

Acid Green 016 does not meet the criteria to be classified as explosive. The substance decomposes at a temperature below 500 °C, with an energy less than 500 J/g.

Furthermore this substance is produced and used at the highest level in Europe, transported in ship from outside Europe at various temperature and stoking conditions. Evidences connected to the long experience in handling of the molecule confirm that no explosive properties have never been observed and reported up to now in the usual conditions of production, stock, transport and use.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), Screening procedure section, the screening procedure is aimed at identifying the presence of such reactive groups and the potential for rapid energy release. If the screening procedure identifies the substance or mixture to be a potential explosive, the acceptance procedure (section 10.3 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria) has to be performed.

Screening procedure failed to evidence any reason for concern, on the basis that the enthalpy of decomposition (i.e. 21.1 J/g) of Acid Green 016 at 261 - 293 °C (onset: 264.3 °C).

In conclusion, substance does not meet the criteria to be classified as explosive, according to the Regulation EC 1272/2008 (CLP).
