Description of key information

Determination of the surface tension of FAT 20341/A TE using a ring method.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
71.2
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 100

Additional information

The determination was carried out by a ring method, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A5 Surface Tension of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 115 of the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995.

Apparatus: White Electrical Institute Co. Ltd.Model “OS”torsion balance for surface and interfacial tension measurements. The measuring body consisted of a 4 cm circumference platinum (Du Nouy) ring.

Purified Water:          Reverse osmosis water.

ConclusionThe surface tension of duplicate 1.1 g/L solutions of test item in water has been determined to be 71.2±1.0 mN/m at 21.8 ± 0.5 °C. The test item was considered to be not surface-active.
