Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The available ecotoxicology studies (acute tests with fish, invertebrates, algae and micro-organism) were performed with FAT 41'030/A, a structural analogue of FAT 41045. Both substances are very similar in their chemical structure and, as demonstrated, in a number of physicochemical properties. Therefore, the use of these studies with FAT 41030 for read-across is considered to be appropriate.

The acute toxicity to zebrafish was determined according to OECD 203 and in compliance with GLP in a 96 hour semi-static test. No mortality of fish was recorded in the control and the nominal test concentration of 100 mg/L FAT 41030/A during the 96 hour exposure period. No sublethal effects such as changes in swimming behaviour, respiratory function, pigmentation or loss of equilibrium were observed in control animals or those assigned to 100 mg/L test concentration during the 96 hour test period. Thus, the LC50(96 h) of FAT 41030/A was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L based on the nominal concentrations.

The acute toxicity to Daphnia magna was determined according to OECD 202, Part 1, and 92/69/EEC, Annex L 383 A, C.2. in compliance with GLP. Immobilisation of the Daphnia or sublethal effects were not evident in the controls or at any of the test item concentrations. Thus, the EC50(48 h) to Daphnia magna was greater than the saturation concentration (> 100 mg/L nominal).

The influence of the test item on the growth of the green algal speciesScenedesmus subspicatusCHODAT was investigated in a 72-hour static test according to EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, C.3 of 1992, and OECD Guideline 201 of 1984 in compliance with GLP. On all counting dates, mean algal cell densities in the test medium were almost identical or even slightly higher than those in the parallel control cultures. Thus, the test item FAT 41'030/A clearly had no inhibitory effect on the growth ofSeenedesmus subspieatusduring the 72 hour exposure period in the undiluted filtrate at a loading rate of 100 mg/L. The 72-hour EC50for mean algal biomass and mean growth rate were higher than the loading rate of 100 mg/L.

The Bacteria toxicity test was performed according to OECD 209 and 67/548/EEC, Part C in compliance with GLP. At all applied test concentrations, the test item showed no significant toxic effects (% inhibition of the respiration rate <15 %) to the activated sludge. The respiration rates were in the same range as determined in the controls. Hence, the IC50and the IC20values for the test item were greater than 1000 mg/L.

In conclusion there was no indication of acute toxicity of FAT41'030/Ato the aquatic environment.Due to the poor water solubility of FAT 41'030/A (< 0.3 mg/L), the exposure to the aquatic compartment is negligible and no further tests are necessary or proposed. The same is concluded for FAT 41045 the structural analogue of FAT 41030.
