Description of key information

The flammability of two VACODYM DYsprosium alloys was determined according to EU method A.10.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Under the conditions of the test described the Dysprosium alloys could be ignited and reacted over the whole length of a sample in less than 10 minutes. The substances have to be classified according to BAM classification and test methods regualtions as flammable solids, devision 4.1 (packaging group III). For reasons of precaution and safety the packaging group II is assigned.

The described tests were performed similar to an internationally accepted guideline and considered to be reliable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Elemental Dysprosium (in alloys) in mixture in a form of powder should be classified as flammable solid (flammable solid 2, H228).

Flammability in contact with water:

Under the conditions of the test the Dysprosium alloys (powder form) are not flammable in contact with water.
