Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

An acute toxicity test with octadec-9-enedioic acid (EC 802-122-7) was conducted with Daphnia magna by Giarei (2015). The study was conducted according to GLP and OECD 202. Daphnia were exposed to nominal test item concentrations of 31.25, 62.50, 125.00, 250.00, and 500.00 mg/L, and an untreated control for 48 hours. A stock solution of 1000 mg/L was prepared and due to the very slightly solubility of the test item put under stirring for 24 hours. Under agitation the samples were prepared and diluted. The test was performed on the diluted solutions. No additional solvent was used. Organic carbon concentration (TOC) has been measured at the beginning and at the end of the test in a pool derived from vessels at the higher, intermediate and lower tested concentration. Since at the end of the test the test item concentrations remained in the required range of 80 - 120% with respect to the initial values, the test item was considered stable and all effect concentrations were based on nominal test concentrations. Significant mortality was observed during the test period and the EC50 was determined to be 258 mg/L.
