Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Experimental surface tension of aqueous solution at 1g/l and 20.3°C: 45.3 ± 0.3 mN/m
The test item was considered as surface-active in the experimental conditions used.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
45.3
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1 000

Additional information

The surface tension was determined by the ring method according to EU Method A.5, OECD Guideline 115 and GLP. No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the test.

The surface tension of the test substance is close to the value of an analogue substance. The analogue is "Reaction product of naphthalene, propan-2-ol, sulfonated and neutralized by caustic soda" having a surface tension at 20°C of 52.2 mN/m. The same method was used for the analogue substance and the test substance to determine this parameter. The slight difference between these two values can be explained by the chemical structure of these two substances. The analogue substance possess a smaller carbon chain than the test substance.

The both substances have surface tension values lower than 60 mN/m, so they are considered as surface active agents.
