Additional information

There are no reliable aquatic toxicity data available for tris(isopropenyloxy)(vinyl)silane (CAS 15332-99-7), therefore good quality data for the structurally-related substance, trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7), have been read across.

Reliable short-term toxicity tests results are available for freshwater invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokerchneriella subcapitata) for trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7). The relevant short-term values are:

Daphnia: EC50 (48 h): 169 mg/l (121 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol).

Algae: EC50 (72 h): >89 and 210 mg/l; NOEC: >=89 and 25 mg/l (>64 mg/l and 150 mg/l; NOEC: >64 mg/l and ca. 17.9 mg/l respectively, when expressed in terms of concentration of the hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol).

A reliable long-term toxicity test result is available for freshwater invertebrates (Daphnia magna) for trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7). The relevant long-term value is:

Daphnia: NOEC (21 d): 28 mg/l (20.1 mg/l when expressed in terms of concentration of the hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol).

The rapid hydrolysis of trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7) (half-life 0.1 h at pH 7 and 20-25 °C) means it is likely that the test organisms in each test were exposed primarily to the hydrolysis products, vinylsilanetriol and methanol.

Refer to Section 6 endpoint summary for further discussion of the approach to chemical safety assessment and justification for read-across.
