In contact with water titanium acid esters react in the following way (Hollemann & Wiberg, 1995):

Ti(OR)4 + 2H2O -> TiO2 + 4 HOR

Therefore, titanium(4+) 2-(dimethylamino)ethanolate will dissociate rapidly and titanium dioxide (CAS 13463-67-7) and 2-dimethylaminoethanol (CAS 108-01-0) are formed under environmental conditions. Consequently, the hazard assessment is based on data for these dissociation products.

The bioaccumulation assessment of 2-dimethylaminoethanol is based on logD calculations, since this dissociation product occurred as a charged molecule under environmental conditions. In the environmental relevant pH-range (pH 4, 7, 9) logD values of -1.12, -2.88, – 3.55 were calculated (BASF 2010). Therefore, 2-dimethylaminoethanol is expected as not bioaccumulative.

Due to the very low water solubility bioaccumulation is also not expected for titanium dioxide.
