Adsorption/desorption

An experimental study was conducted for estimating the adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test chemical Trichloroacetaldehyde (CAS no. 75-87-6) (HSDB, 2016). The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value was calculated using a water solubility of 8300000 mg/L and regression derived equation. The adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test substance Trichloroacetaldehyde was determined to be 0.68 (Log Koc = -0.167). This Koc value indicates that the test substance Trichloroacetaldehyde has a negligible sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have a rapid migration potential to groundwater.

In an experimental key study from authoritative database (HSDB, 2016), experiment was conducted for determining the adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of test chemical Trichloroacetaldehyde (CAS no. 75-87-6). In a prediction done using the KOCWIN model (v2.00) of Estimation Programs Interface (EPI Suite, 2017) the soil adsorption coefficient i.e Koc value of test chemical Trichloroacetaldehyde (CAS No. 75 -87 -6) was estimated to be 2.138 L/kg (log Koc=0.33) by means of MCI method (at 25 deg C). This Koc value indicates that the substance Trichloroacetaldehyde has a negligible sorption to soil and sediment, rapid migration to ground water.

 

The Soil Adsorption Coefficient i.e Koc value of test substance Trichloroacetaldehyde (CAS no. 75 -87 -6) was estimated using Adsorption Coefficient module (v12.1.0.50374) program as Koc 179 (log Koc = 2.3 ± 1.0)(ACD (Advanced Chemistry Development)/I-Lab predictive module, 2017). This Koc value indicates that the test substance Trichloroacetaldehyde has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration to ground water.

 

On the basis of above results for target chemical Trichloroacetaldehyde(from HSDB, EPI suite and ACD labs), it can be concluded that the Koc value of test substanceTrichloroacetaldehyde ranges from 0.68- 179 indicating that the test chemical has anegligible to lowsorption to soil and sediment and therefore have rapid to moderate migration potential to ground water.
