Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation in water: screening tests: 30-32% in 28 days (OECD 301 B; CO2 evolution). No significant biodegradation expected for the silanol hydrolysis product.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

Biodegradation of 30-32% in 28 days (OECD 301 B; CO2 evolution) was determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol, and in compliance with GLP.

The substance is expected to hydrolyse within the timescale of the ready biodegradation study to 2-[3-(trihydroxysilyl) propyl]butanedioic acid and ethanol. The biodegradation observed in the study is attributable to the biodegradation of the ethanol hydrolysis product.

Ethanol is readily biodegradable (OECD, 2004).

No significant biodegradation is expected for the silanol hydrolysis product.
