Description of key information

The median Effective concentration (EC50) value for 1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium salt on Daphnia magna in a 48 hour study was estimated to be 2383.85 mg/L on the basis of intoxication effects. 
Thus the chemical is not expected to exhibit aquatic toxicity as per the CLP criteria.

Experimental data and prediction model based estimation was used to evaluate the algal toxicity of the test compound 1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium salt. the summary is as below:

From the ECOSAR prediction data, EC50 value of the substance Indigotindisulfonate sodium in fresh green algae was calculated using the software ECOSAR Version 1.1, 48hr LC50 value of Indigotindisulfonate sodium is estimated 1.39e+006 in fresh water Daphnia magna.

 

From read across CAS 16521-38-3 publication date (Dyes and Pigments 113, 2015) acute toxicity study for Indigo carmine in Daphnia similis when they were exposed for 48 hr. 20 % immobilization was observed at test concentrations of 30mg/l .Therefore EC20 was considered to be 30mg/l for Daphnia similis when they were exposed to Indigo carmine under static condition for 48 hrs.

 

From the above predicted and experimental data suggests that the test chemical does not classify for toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria.
