The particle size distribution of test item sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate (CAS No. 84864-68-6) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 microns. majority of the particles were found to have particulate size between 53 to 25 microns.

Vapour pressure:

The vapour pressure of the test compound sodium 2-(2 3-dihydro-1 3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate as predicted by EPI suite (2016) (Modified Grain method) is estimated to be 2.65E-017 Pa.

Partition Coefficient:

The partition coefficient (Log Kow/Pow) as predicted by EPI suite (2016) (KOWWIN Program (v1.68)) is found to be -0.7304.

Water Solubility:

The water solubility determination of test item Sodium sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate (CAS No. 84864-68-6 ) was done gravimetrically as per the shake flask method using membrane filtration followed by air drying. The water solubility was found to be 160.95 g/L at 31 °C.

Surface tension:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this testing needs to be carried out only if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate (Common name: D&C Yellow 10) is used as a personal care and home care color. For these uses, surface activity is not a desired property and hence this end point was considered for waiver.

Flash Point:

The flash point determination of test item sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate (CAS No. 84864-68-6 ) was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be 232.3°Cat 967.5 hPa

Auto Flammability:

Sodium 2-(1,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulfonate  did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that sodium 2-(1,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulfonate  is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that sodium sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study is scientifically unjustified since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the chemical sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl)quinoline-6-sulphonate (Common Name: D&C Yellow 10). Thus, the chemical is not likely to be explosive and is considered "Non-explosive" for the purpose of chemical safety assessment.

Oxidising Properties:

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance sodium 2-(2,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-1H-inden-2-yl) quinoline-6- sulphonate (Common Name: D&C Yellow 10) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials,on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen but no halogen. However, these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. THus, the chemical is unlikely to exhibit oxidising properties and this study was therefore considered for waiver and the chemical is considered to be "Non-oxidising".
