Description of key information

The study performed was a limit test with the concentrations 0 and 1000 mg test item (TaC) per kg dry soil. No death worms were observed and no other signs of toxic effects could be observed during the 14 day study period. No significant differences between the control group and the tested group could be observed.

Additional information

A study was performed in accordance with OECD guideline 207 and in compliance with GLP to identify the toxic effects of tantalum carbide (TaC) against terrestrial organisms. Artificial soil was prepared containing 10 % Sphagnum peat moss, 20 % kaolin clay, 68 % quartz sand and 2 % calcium carbonate. The moisture content was adjusted to 35 % and the pH to 6.49. The test item was mixed thoroughly with the artificial soil and the earthworms (Eisenia foetida) were placed in the test chamber for 14 days. The soil was replaced after 7 days and toxic signs and deaths were observed after 7 and 14 days of the test. The test was performed as limit test with the concentrations 0 and 1000 mg TaC per kg dry soil.
