In accordance with Annex VII section 7.11 Column 2 of regulation (EC) 1907/2006), testing for explosive properties is not considered to be required for this substance. Strontium sulfate is considered to be “inert” in the context of explosivity, since this substance is void of any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides. Furthermore, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of strontium sulfate shows that explosivity can be excluded.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Strontium sulfate does not need to be classified for explosive properties according to Directive 67/548 EEC and CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as these are considered non-relevant based on the lack of functional groups.
