Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 May 2013
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
non-equilibrium method closed cup
Flash point apparatus:
Pensky-Martens apparatus
Dynamic viscosity of test material:
(no data)
Key result
Flash point:
100.5 °C
Atm. press.:
101 325 Pa

The results of the main tests are:

First determination: Flash point, corrected for atmospheric pressure: 100.5°C

Second determination: Flash point, corrected for atmospheric pressure: 100.5°C

The results of the two tests were averaged and rounded off to the nearest 0.5°C to obtain the final flash point value: 100.5°C.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
GHS and EU-CLP criteria not met
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test substance is above the classification thresholds of 60°C (CLP criteria) or
93°C (GHS criteria). Therefore the test substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid.
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test item has been determined according to ISO 2719:2002 standard (listed in
EU A.9 guideline), using a Pensky-Martens closed cup non-equilibrium method, and under GLP.

The sample was heated at a gradient of +5.5°C/min in a temperature range around the value found
in the pre-test, and ignition was tested every 1°C (below 110°C). The test was performed in duplicate.
Measurements are automatically corrected for normal atmospheric pressure. The final result is the
average of the two consistent results, rounded off to the nearest 0.5 °C.

The flash point of the test item is 100.5°C.

Description of key information

Experimental flash point = 100.5°C (corrected to normal atmP). (ISO 2719, GLP)

The substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid neither according to CLP Regulation criteria, nor to UN GHS.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
100.5 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized EU/ISO guideline (non-equilibrium closed cup method) and under GLP, is available. It is considered as a key study, and the result is retained as key data.

This study is relevant for the classification regarding flammable properties. (see IU Section 4.13 endpoint summary for justification of non-classification)
