Description of key information

FAT 40069/D is a blue-coloured, odourless solid powder at room temperature. The test substance did not melt or boil until thermic decomposition started at about 320 °C. The average density was found to be 1.1.7368 g/cm³ at 20 °C. Particle size data acquired for the test item are: Percentage of test item with an inhalable particle size <100 µm (Sieve Method) was 53.4 %. Percentage of test item with a thoracic particle size <10.0 µm (Cascade Impactor) was 2.89 %. Percentage of test item with a respirable particle size <5.5 µm (Cascade Impactor) was 0.50 %. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the vapour pressure study does not need to be conducted if the melting point is above 300 °C. The partition coefficient n-octanol/water of FAT 40069/D at 20 °C was determined to be: Pow =3.11 x 10-4; Log Pow = -3.51. The water solubility at 20 °C was determined to be 257 g/L (without correction for the purity). The surface tension was determined to be 77.874 mN/m at room temperature ca 20 °C. Because the test substance is a solid, the flash point of FAT 40069/D was not determined. FAT 40069/D showed no auto-ignition until 550 °C and the substance is considered not to be highly flammable and does not ignite spontaneously when in contact with water or humid air. The analysis of the chemical structures of the test substance FAT 40069/D reveals no alerts for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is below the trigger value of -200 and the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated no energy release above the critical value of 500 J/g. Therefore, the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing is required. Oxidising properties of FAT 40069/D were not determined. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, this study does not need to be conducted as the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of its chemical structure.
