Reference
Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1987
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Justification for type of information:
The main structure of the read-across substance is the same of the CJ313, only the salt form is different. However, this difference does not influence the toxicity of the CJ313. CJ313 contains Li/Na salt form and the read-across substances contains only Na salt. This will not lead to difference on the toxicity results.

Executive summary:

A key toxicity study of FAT 40032/D to activated sludge was determined in a 3-hours respiration inhibition test following methodology similar to OECD Guideline 209. At 10, 32 and 100 mg/L concentrations, respiratory inhibitions observed were 0, 6.3 and 15.8 % respectively. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that the IC50 (3 h) of the test substance FAT 40032/D is greater than 400 mg/L.

Description of key information

The IC50 for FAT 40032/D was found to be greater than 400 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
400 mg/L

Additional information

The IC50 for Reactive Brown 11 was reported to be >300 mg/L in the four available study reports.

In the key toxicity study of FAT 40032/D to activated sludge, conducted according to methodology similar to OECD Guideline 209. In this 3-hours respiration inhibition test, the test substance concentrations tested were 100.0, 32.0 and 10 mg/l. Based on the findings of the study, the IC50 (3 h) of the test substance FAT 40032/D was found to be >400 mg/L.
