Comment relevant to result:

Purity of the test substance: see chapter characterization of the test material.

Test concentrations are given as nominal concentrations and have not been confirmed by analytical methods.

The test result refers to a concentration of Reaktiv Orange DYPR 934 which was calculated directly from analytically determined TOC values. According to the relevant substance informations, 1 mg/L TOC equals to 2.75 mg/L of the organic components of the organic test substance. As these organic correspond to 68 % of the molecular weight of the test substance, 100 mg/L of the test substance equals to 24.7 mg/L of organic C. Thus the analytical values indicate a very good recovery rate.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
Arithmetic means of analytical values:
No toxic effects against algae at 68.8 mg/l of the organic components of the test substance (equals to 101 mg/L of the test substance including the inorganic components)
Executive summary:

In a 72 hours "algal growth inhibition test", exponetially-growing cultures of a Scenedesmus subspicatus CHODAT were exposed to various concentrations of the test substance over several generations under defined conditions.

During the incubation period, during the cell density was measured every 24 hours. The inhibition of growth and growth rate in relation to a control is determined after 72 hours of incubation.

The results are expressed as NOEC/LOEC and as EC10 and EC50 values, which means at those concentrations of the test substance that cause a 10 % and a 50 % reduction in either growth (Ebc) or growth rate (Erc) relative to the control.

No toxic effects against algae at 68.8 mg/l of the organic components of the test substance (equals to 101 mg/L of the test substance including the inorganic components) were observed.
