Description of key information
Aquatic toxicity studies in fish, invertebrates, plant and microorganisms were performed according to standard guidelines to evaluate the toxicity potential of the test substance. The most recent study conducted to determine the acute toxicity of FAT 41001 to zebra fish (Danio rerio) was performed in 1984. Under the test conditions, the 96 h LC0 was 100 mg/L, whereas the 96 h LC50 was >143 mg/L and LC100 was 300 mg/L. Two weight of evidence studies showed that the test item dos not have acute toxic effects on Daphnia magna and lead to a 48h EC50 greater than 100 mg/L. A study was performed to assess the effect of the test item on the growth of the freshwater plant Lemna minor. The effect of the test item on the growth of Lemna minor has been investigated over a 7 -day period and gave the following results. The average specific growth rate (frond number) EC50 was >100 mg/L. The average specific growth rate (dry weight) EC50 was >100 mg/L. The NOEC was 100 mg/L. The most recent studies to evaluate the inhibitory effect of the test item FAT 41001 on the respiration rate of aerobic wastewater micro-organisms of activated sludge in a 3-hour respiration inhibition test according to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 209 were performed in 1992. The 3-hour IC50 of FAT 41001 to activated sludge micro-organisms was determined to be >320 mg/L. Based on test data generated for species including all the three trophic levels (LC50 and EC50 >100 mg/L in all cases) FAT 41001 can be classified as not toxic to aquatic organisms.
