Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

The solubity of Sn from SnO was calculated by using a worst-case approach:

It was assumed that the solubility of Sn from Sn(OH)2 is higher compared to SnO. The solubility product of 5.45 x 10 -27 for Sn(OH)2 was taken from http://www2.ucdsb.on.ca/tiss/stretton/Database/Solubility_Products.htm. For Sn2+ the resulting solubility was calculated to be 0.17 µg/L. It is verry likely that the solubility of Sn2+ from SnO is even lower.

For the highly soluble SnCl2 (CAS 7772-99-8) the lowest chronic endpoint was 0.03 mg/L based on Sn2 + (EC10, cyanobacteriat; see ECHA diss. Dossier_July 2014). Due to the fact that the solubility of Sn2+ from SnO is lower than the chronic effect value neither an acute nor a chronic classification of SnO is required.
