Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No inhibition of the microbial activity up to a substance concentration of 100 mg/L in two biodegradation tests were observed. Therefore, no further test is necessary to evaluate the respiration inhibition of activated sludge. The concentration used in the toxicity control (100 mg/L) can be used as NOEC value to derive the PNEC STP.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

According to the ECHA Guidance document R7b, no further test on the toxicity to microorganisms has to be conducted if the toxicity control in a ready biodegradability test shows no inhibitory effects on microorganisms. As the toxicity control in both the Key and Supporting studies (OECD 301 D, study no. 09-E003 and OECD 301 F, study no. 1999072; section 5.2) showed no inhibition of the microbial activity up to a substance concentration of 100 mg/L, no further test is necessary to evaluate the respiration inhibition of activated sludge. The concentration used in the toxicity control (100 mg/L) can be used as NOEC value.
