Description of key information

EC50(72h) = 18 mg/L, Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata, OECD 201, Tobler 2015

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
18 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.4 mg/L

Additional information

Tobler (2015) conducted a study following recent guidelines and in compliance with GLP. Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata were exposed to the test item for 96 hours in static water at 22 °C. The shape and size of the algal cells was not affected by the test item up to at least this concentration. The control biomass increased by a factor > 16 within 3 days, the mean CV of the daily growth rates in the control was < 35 % and the CV of the average specific growth rates in the replicates of the control was < 7 %, therefore the validity criteria were fulfilled. The 72-hour EC50 was calculated to be 18 mg/L with 95% confidence limits of 17 and 20 mg/L. The value is selected to be carried forward for risk assessment, classification and labelling. The study is considered complete, adequate and reliable for the purpose of risk assessment and classification.
