Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

A single study for combustible solids (Carter 2013) was available. The train of powder method was used and the material exhibited no combustion properties in the test.

Comparison of the chemical structure with the functional groups listed in Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of tests and criteria, Appendix 6, 5.3 (p. 442), indicates the substance is unlikely to be flammable on contact with water. In addition, experience in the handling and use of the substance has indicated no properties associated with flammability on contact with water. As a result, and according to Annex XI, section 1.2, based on the weight-of-evidence, testing for this endpoint is considered to be unnecessary.

Comparison of the chemical structure with the functional groups listed in Bretherick’s Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, 6th Ed., Vol. 2, Pyrophoric materials (p. 343), indicates the substance is unlikely to have pyrophoric properties. In addition, experience in the handling and use of this substance has given no indication that it has pyrophoric properties. As a result, and according to Annex XI, section 1.2, based on the weight-of-evidence, testing for this endpoint is considered to be unnecessary.

See Section 4.23 Additional physico-chemical information, for a discussion of self-reative substance properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not considered to be classified for flammability according to the criteria as described by Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, Annex I, Part 2, 2.7., because the substance is not readily combustible. The available data are considered reliable and suitable for classification. As a result, this substance does not meet the criteria for classification under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
