Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
8 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
8 000 mg/L

Additional information

The assessment of the toxicity of butyl vinyl ether (CAS 111-34-2) to aquatic microorganisms is based on the experimental data from a GLP growth inhibition test with P. putida performed according to DIN 38412-8 (BASF AG, 1994). No growth inhibition effect was observed at the highest test concentration (8000 mg/L, nominal). Therefore, the 16-h EC10 was determined to be >8000 mg/L.

Based on the experimental data, it can be concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when butyl vinyl ether (CAS 111-34-2) is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
