Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No long-term toxicity test with aquatic invertebrates is available, but no long-term effects can be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No long-term toxicity test on aquatic invertebrates is available for the members of the Dimerised Fatty Acids and Its Derivatives category.

However, data on the chronic toxicity to fish do exist for Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers, hydrogenated (CAS No. 68783-41-5). A 28-day study conducted by Marshall (1994) with Danio rerio resulted in no effects up to the limit of water solubility.

Thus, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5,a read across approach is applied, as all substances of the category are structurally and compositionally related to each other and have similar properties. It is therefore not expected, as there was no sign that aquatic invertebrates are more sensitive than fish in short term tests, that a long-term test with invertebrates will generate different results than the existing long-term test with fish. In addition and in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, 9.1.5., column 2, the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates no need to investigate further the effects on aquatic organisms, thus a long-term study on aquatic invertebrates is not required.
