Description of key information

From a water-sediment Chironomid toxicity study using spiked sediment (OECD 218), a NOEC (28 d; emergence and development rate) of 188 mg/kg sediment dw was determined.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater sediment:
188 mg/kg sediment dw

Additional information

For assessment of sediment toxicity, read-across from supporting substance C16-18(even numbered)-alkylamine acetate (CAS No.: 1273322-45-4) is carried out. In a reliable study (RL 1) performed compliant with GLP according to OECD 218 (Noack, Study-No.: IZS15732), toxicity of the test item spiked into sediment towards Chironomus larvae was investigated. The NOEC (28 days) for both, emergence rate as well as development rate was determined to be 188 mg/kg sediment dry weight. Comparison of the LOEC (28 d; 455 mg/kg sediment dry weight) with the EC50 (mortality, 28 d; 412 mg/kg sed. dw) demonstrates that there is no specific action of the primary amine with regard to endpoints development and emergence.
