Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4) is not harmful to fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two studies, investigating the short-term toxicity to freshwater fish once of Pentaerythritol tetraoleate (CAS-No. 19321-40-5) and once of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediyl dioleate (CAS-no. 25151-96-6), were used as read across for Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No.85116-93-4). These substances are structurally and composition related to Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No.85116-93-4). The GLP-study for CAS-No. 19321-40-5 (Bogers, 1997) was conducted static and according to OECD 203 with Cyprinus carpio. The result was LC50 (96h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) and LC0 ≥ 100 mg/L (nominal). As at this concentration test substance drops floating at the surface of the medium, the tested concentration of 100 mg/L demonstrated a worst case. The semi-static study with Danio rerio for CAS-No. 25151 -96 -6 (Richterich, 1988) equivalent or similar to OECD 203 determined LC 50 (96h) > 10000 mg/L (nominal) and LC0 ≥ 10000 mg/L (nominal). In both studies no mortality could be observed at conditions tested. Due to the low water solubility of both test substances, no toxicty was observed within the water solubility of both test substances under conditions tested. A conclusion by analogue approach has been applied. Based on the analogy it can be concluded that no toxicological effects on freshwater fish are expected for Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No.85116-93-4).
