Description of key information
The auto-flammability of the butenes ranges between 324°C - 465°C. This range is based on data from the members of the butenes category: but-1-ene (CAS 106-98-9), 2-butene (CAS 107-01-7) and 2-methylpropene (CAS 115-11-7).

The data reported are derived from the members of the butenes category and were obtained from the CRC Handbook (Lide 2008). This handbook is peer-reviewed and is considered reliable and suitable for use as a key study for this endpoint. The auto-flammability of the butenes category therefore ranges from 324°C - 465°C. Although data are only available from a single peer-reviewed handbook, the results are very similar across the different isomers and the consistency of the results between the structural analogues provides further weight of evidence that the data are reliable.
The auto-flammability of 2-methylpropene is 465°C (Lide 2008). The auto-flammability of 2-butene ranges from 324°C - 325°C (Lide 2008). The auto-flammability of but-1-ene is 385°C (Lide 2008). The mean of the auto-flammability values for the butenes is 375°C and this has been used to complete the 'key value for chemical safety assessment'.
