No experimental data evaluating the toxicity to soil organisms is available for Lanolin alcohols (CAS No. 8027-33-6). Lanolin alcohols is a substance of unknown and variable composition (UVCB), containing approximately 30% Cholesterol (CAS No. 57-88-5) and significant fractions of structure-related substances. Available data indicate that the substance is not bioaccumulative in a classical sense due to its active metabolic regulation and not acute and chronic toxic to aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility. Furthermore, the substance is regarded as not persistent after environmental exposure. Differently to organic xenobiotics, Cholesterol, the main component of Lanolin alcohols is integrated into the cellular metabolism and intracellular levels are actively regulated in most animals. Based on the available information, Lanolin alcohols is considered to be a harmless substance and toxicity to terrestrial organisms is unlikely to be of concern.
