Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The short term toxicity for aquatic invertebrates (daphnids) was determined to be > 100 mg/L for the EC50 and > 100 mg/L for the NOEC, following Testing guidelines OECD 202 as well EU C.2

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water invertebrates

Fresh water invertebrates
Effect concentration:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The results for the LC50 and the NOEC (both > 100 mg/L) are based on the nominal loading of the test item. Since it is not possible to detect the substance graphite in the test solution, no other value than the loading amount is available. Due to the poor water solubility of the test item the medium for the fish test was prepared according to OECD Guidance 23 "GUIDANCE DOCUMENT ON AQUATIC TOXICITY TESTING OF DIFFICULT SUBSTANCES AND MIXTURES" as water accommodated fraction (WAF).

The test item used for the acute daphnid test consist of a mixture of two different graphite qualities, representing a typical spectrum of graphite's impurities. In the limit test conducted, no significant signs of toxicity were observed. In conclusion neither the material graphite itself nor its impurities reached concentrations where aquatoxic effects occurred.
