Description of key information

Determination of hydrolysis of fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised was not considered to be possible based on read-across to an attempted OECD 111 study on soybean oil, epoxidised. The attempted study was not technically feasible due to its negligible water solubility and the fact that the test material found in solution represented only the lower molecular weight range of the test material components, and thus did not address the more abundant, higher molecular weight fraction of the test material.

According to REACH guidelines, a stability study is not required as fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised are considered to be readily biodegradable.

  

Fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised are considered to be readily biodegradable based on a read-across study conducted on TK 11278 (otherwise known as Reoplast 39 or epoxidised soybean oil) (Schulthess, 1988).

 

According to EPIsuite (KOWWIN v1.67 estimate), the partition coefficient of the main components of fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised range from 7 ≤ log Kow ≤ 12. A bioaccumulation study is not considered necessary, given that uptake into fish is expected to be hindered by the large molecular size. If taken up by fish, these carboxylate ester-containing substances are expected to be readily metabolized and excreted. Thus, the bioaccumulation potential is expected to be much lower than predicted from log Kow alone.

 

Fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised were determined to have a Log Kow value of greater than 5.7 and therefore cannot be expected to have a low adsorption potential to soil. However, the Koc value was estimated from the chemical structure of the four main components of fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised.

According to KOCWIN the estimated Log Koc of Fatty acids, C14-22, 2-ethylhexyl esters, epoxidised were between Log Koc 4.58 and 6.35 (Koc Estimate from MCI) and between Log Koc 4.49 and 6.89 (Koc Estimate from Log Kow).
