Based on evidence from a number of studies with the registered substance and the analogous substance ATMP and its salts, ATMP-N-oxide-5K is considered to be non-biodegradable by WWTP organisms, though the soil degradation result implies that it would be unreasonable to assume no degradation in the environment. There is evidence of degradation mechanisms that could prevent long-term persistence. Photodegradation in the presence of common metal ions has been observed in aqueous studies, so some photodegradation is possible at the soil surface where exposure to light is high. Irreversible sorption can be expected to dominate the soil environmental fate (refer to Sections 5.2.3 and 5.4.1).
