- Conclusions:
- Brennzahl 1: no ignition and burning
Brennzahl 2: short ignition, but no propagation, as rapid extinction
The sample is not flammable. - Executive summary:
The sample was tested for its flammable properties in a non-GLP stsudy similar to VDI 2263-1 Anhang 2, Brennzahl. The test is a kind of pre-test, similar to UN Test N.1. If the outcome of the test shows "Brennzahlen" BZ 1 - 3 this shows a negative outcome of the pre-test in the sense of UN Test N.1.
For the test item a "Brennzahl" between 1 and 2 was observed:
BZ 1: no burning
BZ 2: short burning and rapid extinction
Therefore the sample is considered as non-flammable solid.
- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

- Remarks on result:
- other: no self-ignition observed under the test conditions
- Interpretation of results:
- other: EU GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The pure test item shows no self-ignition up to the test end temperature of 400 °C.
- Executive summary:
The test item was assessed for its self-heating properties in a non-GLP study. The test was done in the Grewer Oven according to VDI 2263 Sheet 1. The pure test item shows no self-ignition up to the test end temperature of 400 °C and is considered therefore to have no self-heating properties.

Description of key information
Flammability:
Flammability, contact with water:
The study is scientifically not necessary, because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids. Also the test material does not contain structural components associated with flammability on contact with water mentioned in the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance, chapter R.7.1.10.3, page 123. Therefore, it can be concluded that the test material exhibit no risk for flammability on contact with water.
Flammability, pyrophoric solids:
The study is scientifically not necessary, because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and the test material does not contain structural components associated with pyrophoricity mentioned in the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance, chapter R.7.1.10.3, page 123. Therefore, it can be concluded that the test material exhibit no risk for pyrophoricity.
Flammability, self-heating substances:
The test item was assessed for its self-heating properties in a non-GLP study. The test was done in the Grewer Oven according to VDI 2263 Sheet 1. The pure test item shows no self-ignition up to the test end temperature of 400 °C and is considered therefore to have no self-heating properties.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The main test is unnecessary.
Based on the physical state, the structural elements and the melting point the substance has neither to be classified as flammable in contact with air, nor as pyrophoric solid.
As the substance shows no self-heating properties during a screening test (Grewer oven) and must therefore not classified as self-heating substance.
