Additional information

Considering the log Koc values reported for this substance (2.1-2.7), low adsorption of methyl octanoate (CAS No. 111-11-5) to soil and sediment particles is anticipated. Based on its water solubility (64.4 mg/L) and Henry's Law Constant value (79.3 Pa m3/mol), if released into the environment methyl octanoate will be mainly distributed in the aquatic compartment, from which partial volatilization into air can be expected. Nevertheless, due to its ready biodegradability and susceptibility to undergo indirect photodegradation (by reaction with OH-radicals) in air, persistence of this substance in the environment is unlikely.
