Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Three tests on the toxicity of the substance to microorganisms are available.

In a short-term respiration test performed according to OECD guideline 209 the respiration of activated domestic sludge was determined. After 30 minutes of exposure an EC10 >=1000 mg/l was determined (BASF AG, 1996). A second short-term respiration test was performed with activated industrial sludge as inoculum. An EC10 > 1995 mg/l was determined after 30 minutes (BASF AG, 1990). The toxicity of the substance to Pseudomonas putida was tested in a growth inhibition test following Bringmann and Kuehn. After 17 hours of incubation an EC50 of 2200 mg/l was determined (BASF AG, 1988).
