Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The substance, consisting of two main components (type A and type B, see chapter 1.2), is not stable in water. The degradation strictly depends on pH.

At alkaline conditions demethylolation of hydroxymethyl groups was observed resulting in the formation of oligomers of type B. Whereas at acid conditions depolymerisation was detected resulting in the formation of lower oligomers and monomers. At neutral pH both processes were observed in parallel. Due to the complexity and multitude of reactions a determination of a hydrolysis rate is not possible.
