Additional information

The only value available on toxicity to soil macroorganisms comes from a (Q)SAR estimation with the programme ECOSAR v1.00. The respective 14-day LC50 for effects on earthworms is estimated to be 1697 mg/kg soil dry weight (ECT, 2009).

No experimental and no long-term data are available.

The reliability of the ECOSAR result is not assignable (4) since the corresponding model algorithm cannot be validated due to poor documentation.

In accordance with REACH Annex IX and X, 9.4, Column 2, the EPM method may be applied to assess the hazard for soil organisms and long-term toxicity testing shall only be proposed by the registrant if the results of the CSA indicate the need to investigate further the effects of the substance and/or degradation products on terrestrial organisms. As the substance is ready biodegradable, not assumed to be highly adsorptive to soil (log Kow < 3, no other indications of high adsorption), and of low aquatic toxicity (EC/LC50 > 1 mg/L) the substance was assigned to soil hazard category 1, according to the ITS as described in ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and CSA, R.7c. Applying the EPM method to assess the hazard for soil organisms no risks were identified and in conclusion soil toxicity testing is not required.
