PBT assessment: overall result

N-methylmorpholine oxide
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
N-methylmorpholine oxide
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB

An evaluation of the inherent properties of NMMO is performed against the ANNEX XIII criteria. If insufficient data were available, the screening criteria as laid down in ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment (2008) were applied.

The available evidence on degradation is not sufficient for an assessment based on the Annex XIII criteria for persistence (P and vP). Although the substance is concluded to be ultimately and inherently biodegradable, the screening criteria for persistence are not fulfilled.

The available evidence on bioaccumulation potential and toxicity for NMMO indicates that the Annex XIII criteria for bioaccumulation potential (B and vB) and toxicity (T) are not met.

Therefore NMMO should not be considered as a PBT/vPvB substance.
