Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Three tests on the toxicity of ethyl vinyl ether to microorganisms are available. All three test were performed in unsealed test systems. Testing in selaed test vessels is technically not feasible. In a test with the analogous substance isobutyl vinyl ether, CAS 109 -53 -5 conducted according to German Industrial Standard DIN 38412 part 27 Robra-Test using Pseudomonas putida as test organism an EC10 of 3376 mg/l was determined after 17 hours (BASF AG, 1988).

Comparable results were detected in a test performed in compliance with German standard guideline DIN 38412, part 8 on Pseudomonas putida using ethyl vinyl ether as test substance. The study was terminated after 17 hours and an EC50 of > 5000 mg/l was recorded (BASF AG, 1988).

A third study investigating the toxicity of the substance to activated sludge in a respirometry test a stimulation of respiration was observed (BASF AG, 1979).

Conservatively, the lowest value from the test with the analogous substance was used for the risk assessment.
