Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In contact with water ethyl vinyl ether will hydrolyse rapidly under acidic condidtions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Under acidic conditions ethyl vinyl ether hydrolyses rapidly as shown in a GLP test according to OECD guideline 111 (BASF 2010). At pH4 and at 20°C the half-life was estimated to be 0.59 hour while at the same temperature and a neutral pH of 7 a half-life of 32.9 h was measured. At pH9 and at 50°C the half-life increased significantly upon ca.70 days. As only product of hydrolysis acetaldehyde was measured.
