Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Biphenyl-4,4'-diol is a white crystalline solid at room temperature with a melting point of 283.2 °C. During the melting point determination, a degradation process was observed. As the test substance is therefore decomposing upon heating, a boiling point cannot be obtained.

The relative density of biphenyl-4,4'-diol was determined to be 1.37 g/cm³ using the pycometer method at 293 K.

The median particle size D50 of the test substance was determined to be 158 µm by laser diffraction measurement.

The vapour pressure of biphenyl-4,4'-diol was estimated to be 7.89 x 10-7 mmHg (0.000105 Pa).

The log octanol-water partition coefficient was calculated to be 2.7.

The solubility of the test item was determined to be 33.7 mg/L (pH 6.5) at 20 +/- 0.5 °C.

No self ignition temperature was found up to the melting of the test item.

Biphenyl-4,4'-diol is classified as non flammable. It is not classified for explosive properties nor oxidising properties.

In accordance with "Column 2 specific rules for adaptation from Column 1" of REACH Annex IX, the following endpoints were waived: surface tension, flash point, stability in organic solvents, dissociation constant and viscosity.
