Anhydrous aluminium chloride is classified as corrosive (C, R34) according to Annex I to the Directive 67/548/EEC, and H314 (Skin corr. 1B) according to Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Therefore, acute toxicity testing was not performed in accordance with the "column 2" adaptations given in REACH Annex VII+VIII.
No studies/information are available concerning acute inhalation or acute dermal toxicity of the test substance
Hasegawa et al. (1989) reported about the acute oral toxicity tests on 113 environmental chemicals. Six increasing dose levels were tested. The results are only available in a tabular form (no details about mortalities and gross pathology). Using the Litchfield-Wilcoxon method, the authors calculated acute oral LD50values of 3450 mg/kg for male and 3470 mg/kg for female rats, respectively.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the available data, classification for acute toxicity under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) is not warranted.
