Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Melcer et al. (2007) conducted a literature review with regard to physical-chemical properties and environmental fate characteristics of alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in air:
5 h

Additional information

The authors found that the calculated vapour phase half-life for nonylphenol was 5 hours.

The atmospheric photo-oxidation rate for nonylphenol was calculated using EPISuite v3.12 (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency EPISuite. Estimation Program Interface (EPI) Suite Version 3.12. Washington, DC.) assuming a unique highly branched structure for the compound.

In view of the short half-life, photo-oxidation may be an important degradation process for the removal of nonylphenol from the atmosphere.
