The determination of the viscosity of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate was performed according to the OECD guideline No. 114, "Viscosity of Liquids" using the rotational viscosimeter method.

The viscosity of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate was measured over a shear rate range from 0 s-1 to 1130 s-1 at 20 °C and from 0 s-1 to 2050 s-1 at 40 °C. The viscosity values did not vary with the shear rate within the limits of accuracy of the instrument. This indicates that 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate is a Newtonian fluid. 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate has a viscosity of 99.80 mPa·s at 20 °C and 31.60 mPa·s at 40 °C.

The individual values used for determination of the viscosity are given in Tables below. Examples of the flow curves of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate are shown in the attached Figures.

The calibration was performed before the sample measurement with calibration oil E200 using the cylinder system at 20.0 °C. E200 (supplier Thermo Fisher, Ser. No. 12009/00026, certified viscosity as given by the supplier: 112 mPa·s) is a mixture of mineral oils which are recommended as reference substances by IUPAC and which are mentioned in OECD guideline No.114. The actual viscosity of the measurement varies about 1.86 % with respect to the certified viscosity labeled. This deviation is in accordance with the criteria as described in the internal SOP, where a range of ± 4 % is accepted.

Conclusions:
The viscosity of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate decreases with increasing temperature from 99.80 mPas at 20 °C to 31.60 mPas at 40 °C. The viscosity does not depend on the shear rate. It can be stated, that 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate is a Newtonian fluid.
Executive summary:

The viscosity of 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate was determined at 20 °C and 40 °C according to the OECD Method No. 114 using a rotating cylinder viscosimeter.
