Experimental data on the toxicity of Amines, polyethylenepoly (PEPA; CAS 68131-73-7) to terrestrial organisms are available for earthworms (soil macroorganisms). Earthworms are responsible for the breakdown and incorporation of organic matter into the soil and thus will be mainly exposed via the uptake of soil material and via contact with soil pore water. The main exposure route of the animals is dependent on the bioavailability and thus the substance properties. The test substance is characterized by a high water solubility (WS >50 g/L), a low vapour pressure (7.65E-4 Pa) and a log Koc >3.5. Thus the substance is expected to be present in soil pore water and adsorb to soil and suspended matter. Furthermore the substance is not readily biodegradable. Thus, in accordance with section R.7.11.5.3. of Chapter R.7c of the ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (ECHA, 2017) long-term tests were conducted in order to assess the toxicity of the substance to terrestrial organisms. The toxicity to earthworms was tested according to OECD guideline 222 with Eisenia fetida as test species. During an exposure period of 56 days (in total) the mortality of adult earthworms as well as the reproduction rate were recorded. An effect of the substance on the reproduction rate was not determined. The reported NOEC is 1000 mg/kg soil dw.

Additionally data from a short summary on the toxicity to birds of the read across substance N,N'-bis(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (CAS 112-24-3) are available. Wild-trapped birds were preconditioned to captivity for 2 to 6 weeks and were usually dosed by gavage with solutions or suspensions of the test chemical in propylene glycol. The LD50 was estimated based on the food consumption measured over a period of 18 hours. A LD50 (18 h) of 100 - 133 mg/kg was calculated.

The available data is deemed sufficient to assess the terrestrial toxicity of the test substance. Further tests on soil organisms are therefore not conducted.
