Additional information

For 2,4,6,8 -tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane, rapid hydrolysis means that photodegradation is not a relevant process. No data are available for the end product of hydrolysis, methylsilanetriol. However, experiments carried out for the structurally closely related substance dimethylsilanediol indicate that it will undergo aqueous photolytic oxidative demethylation with tropospheric ultraviolet radiation in the presence of suitable chromophores, such as nitrogen oxides, to give silicic acid and carbon dioxide (Buch et al 1984).
