Description of key information

The partition coefficient is determined to be -0.42 at 20°C. The pH value is not relevant as the substance has no ionic character.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
-0.42
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Several reliable literature sources reported the partition coefficient of 1-dioxane to be between -0.27 and -0.42. The Syracuse Research Coperation, Physical Properties Database and the GESTIS - Substance database reported the partition coefficient to be -0.27 based on experimental data, a patent of SUNTORY FLOWERS LIMITED (cited in REAXYS) reported the partition coefficient also to be -0.27, Perminova, Irina V.; Frimmel, Fritz H.; Kovalevskii, Dmitrii V.; Abbt-Braun, Gudrun; Kudryavtsev, Alexey V.; and Hesse, Sebastian, also cited in REAXYS, reported the partition coeffient to be -0.42.

Runar Collander and Roelof F. Rekker also reported the partition coeffient to be -0.42 and a calcukation done with KOWWIN v1.68 resulted a partition coefficient of -0.32.

They are all peer reviewed and authoritative secondary sources and regarded to be reliable for 1-dioxane. The value from Perminova, Irina V.; Frimmel, Fritz H.; Kovalevskii, Dmitrii V.; Abbt-Braun, Gudrun; Kudryavtsev, Alexey V.; and Hesse, Sebastian, cited in REAXYS, was chosen as key parameter for the partition coefficient.
