Additional information

The toxicity to algae was investigated according to the OECD guideline 201, on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. Firstly, a preliminary study was performed at the loading rate equal to 100.0 mg/l. Being the test item a UVCB substance, a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) method was applied to solution preparation. In the test item solution the algal growth rate (r) after 72 hours of exposure was 59.7 % compared to the negative control and the yield (Y) resulted inhibited by a value of 97.3 %. The test item solution appeared transparent with only some white particles on the water surface throughout all the test period.

A full study was then performed at five nominal concentrations in a geometric series, namely 0.0, 1.0, 3.1, 9.8, 31.3 and 100.0 mg/l. In the test item solutions the algal growth rate (r) and algal yield (Y) after 72 hours of exposure were inhibited respectively by a value of 5.6 % and 26.6 % only for the highest tested concentration (100.0 mg/l as test item), compared to the negative control. For the other tested concentrations, no significant biological effects were observed.
