Description of key information

The more sensitive NOEC is 2.2 mg/L for the ashes (residues), coal with a higher content of free lime.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The long term effects of ashes (residues), coal on aquatic invertebrates were evaluated in two 21d tests with Daphnia magna according to the OECD 211, one with ashes (residues), coal and the other test with the ashes (residues), coal with a higher content of free lime. The test design was semi-static with a renewal of the test medium.

Under the conditions of the present study the ashes (residues), coal with a higher content of free lime did not affect the growth or reproduction of Daphnia magna when exposed to a WAF prepared at a loading rate of 2.2 mg/L after 21 days of exposure (NOEL). Ashes (residues), coal without a higher content of free lime did not affect reproduction or survival of Daphnia magna at a WAF prepared at a loading rate of 100 mg/L after 21 days of exposure.
